Honeywell Leads STRATA with AI Additive Manufacturing
Honeywell experiments with AI-driven tooling to improve additive manufacturing with aircraft.

A Honeywell-led group has secured £14.1 million ($19 million) from the UK government for STRATA, a project aimed at developing AI-driven additive manufacturing for the aerospace industry. The collaboration aims to improve components for aircraft environmental and cabin pressure control systems.
The technologies developed through STRATA aim to provide tangible benefits for the aerospace sector by enhancing manufacturability, reducing the time-to-market for new products, and minimizing the environmental impact of the aviation industry. By utilizing AI-powered simulation and modeling, the project aims to accelerate product innovation. Additionally, advanced 3D printing methods are anticipated to reduce supply chain timelines and lower carbon emissions associated with component manufacturing.
STRATA’s work in thermal management aims to minimize the energy required for aircraft temperature control, ultimately making aircraft more efficient and environmentally friendly. The project is being led by Honeywell’s Yeovil facility, with participation from several technology partners.
“STRATA represents a commitment to take the UK’s aerospace manufacturing leadership to new levels through the use of cutting-edge technology,” says Anthony Florian, president, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies EMEAI.
“This is an exciting opportunity to bring our deep experience in driving cross-sector aerospace research and local engineering capabilities to accelerate the development of more efficient aircraft components in the UK.”
